You’ll burn your retinas!
It’s been just down right cosmic out there lately. This last full moon was incredibly HUGE! I’ve heard of the “Harvest Moon”, the “Hunters Moon”, the “Strawberry Moon”, but this last one was called the “Beaver Moon”. I read it was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. I am definitely not a “fur” person (unless you count the endless supply of cat hair in my house), but I did find it interesting.
This morning when I went to the gym, it was pitch black and very cold. That kind of cold when the snot in your nose will freeze. Kind of a rude awakening (literally), seeing as tho’ it was just moments before I was sleeping warm in my cozy bed. It’s always like pulling teeth getting my butt down to the gym, yet I feel invigorated, have a skip in my step and actually feel healthier on my way out. This morning after working out (one of the many side effects of my meds is, I can lather up like a plow horse), as I pushed the doors open, I could hear my first grade teacher yelling “for God sakes, don’t look at it…. you’ll burn your retinas!” As if my first grade education was enough to know what a retina was. But the sun, which looked like fire as it hit the sky, begged me to look at it. Admire it. Bask in it’s instant elevation in temperature. Something about the start of a new day, just always makes me feel hopeful. It’s a fresh start. A new beginning. I decided I’d risk burning my retinas for just a few minutes of beauty, grace and serenity. And now while I write these words, the same ball of fire is slipping down over the horizon, leaving a trail of pinks, reds, purples and blues. It’s amazing really. The same view every day…. just different colors of spectacular.
