Unexpected Gifts
Life is full of them.
Awesome he was. In all his grandeur. The shadow of his wing span looked as though a plane were flying over head. Instead it was the largest and most beautiful bird I had ever seen. I couldn’t help but think as a bird of prey, he would be a force to be reckoned with. As he flew by my office window, he couldn’t have been more then 10 feet away. He made the magpie sitting in the same tree, look like a sparrow.
A bald eagle. Just sitting there. Looking out. Was he just enjoying a beautiful day? Was he basking in the warmth of the sun? Was he captivated by the blueness of the sky? Or perhaps just looking out on a pasture full of field mice.
By the time I got outside to get a better look… there were four of them sitting in the same tree. Four bald eagles, with me staring at them in my back yard. What are the chances of that?
They stayed in the tree. All four of them. Unaffected by my presence.
One looked at me, then continued to clean himself. Such power. Such eloquence. I couldn’t believe I’d just been privy to this gift. Even as I write these words, they still sit in the tree. Like centuries. Like statues.
It is most definitely a beautiful day.
