Notice
While driving home the other day, from a rather hectic work week (who doesn’t have those, eh?) I decided to s l o w d o w n and notice things. I noticed every thing I could. We live out in the country, so it was relatively easy.
This time of year at the elevation we are at, all the critters are having babies. Baby horses everywhere, frolicking and trying to get their mama’s attention. Baby mules, you wouldn’t ordinarily think of a mule as a beautiful creature, but they truly are. Baby cows. Baby birds, ducks, geese, you name it…. they are out here in the country.
We live about 7 miles from town and on the way home during my usual route, I noticed the old chocolate lab, that lays out in his front yard under an old cottonwood tree. I always honk and wave to him. And he always lifts head and gives me a wag of the tail.
I noticed the freshly plowed fields are all starting to grow corn, wheat, beans, and there is no sweeter smell than that of fresh cut hay, the first of the season.
And if you think you work hard, I can tell you the American farmer works 10 times as hard. My father use to say you could judge a man’s character by whether or not he knew how to use the “business end of a shovel”. In my neck of the woods, there are plenty of men and women of strong character. This time of year, you can’t help but notice.
Life is certainly worth noticing. Take notice of yours!
