I’m still waiting…
for the lab results I had done a week ago. Hurry up to wait seems to be par for the course when it comes to any of my medial appointments, lab results, etc.
Upon seeing the results of my elevated prolactin level (almost 3 weeks ago), my endocrinologist (a specialist in his field) requested I come immediately for an appointment and of course they wanted to take more blood (what are these guys…. vampires?) to “re-evaluate” my situation. Keep in mind, he is 2 states away, so I would have to fly… which I did. Anytime something goes south with this brain tumor, it creates, yes… a little anxiety.
So I flew, and with my suitcase with me… went to my appointment at 7:30am (which I arrived 30 minutes early, just in case). With baited breath I waited…. and then waited a little more… as the doctor was running a “couple minutes late”. In real time, it was 30 minutes late. When he came in I was hoping to hear “there’s a new drug we’ve had great results with”. But of course, that’s not what he said. Instead he had runny eyes, was coughing, and sneezing because he said had had “really bad allergies”.
Is he kidding? IS HE KIDDING???
I would trade my tumor engulfed pituitary gland for his “allergies” any frickin’ day of the week! Oh my god! Could we please get back to me?
You hoooooo?
Pituitary tumor in exam room 3, Paging Dr. Endocrinologist to exam room 3.
So after we exchanged the pleasantries of allergies, the end result… was in his opinion, he thought I had a tumor that was bleeding. I asked him about Cyberknife vs. transphenoidal surgery. After explaining the risks of both, he flat out said, if he were in the same boat as me… if surgery was necessary, it would be 10 times better to have the transphenoidal. He said he would be speaking to the neurosurgeon about me, to discuss my situation. Don’t get me wrong, I feel I am seeing one of the best endocrinologists in the country… but obviously he doesn’t have a pituitary tumor in his brain. So we are obviously NOT in the same boat.
Well, it’s after 5:00pm on a Friday night. No lab results. No phone call from the doctor(s)… so if I were consuming alcohol…. I’d be having a cold beer right now. Maybe 2!
